Kelly Ridge Solar Batteries: Choosing a Location Before Your PPA

Plan a battery location for your Kelly Ridge PG&E home, considering county guidance, equipment access, installation work and solar PPA scope.

Where would a solar battery go at your Kelly Ridge home? Choosing that location early can make a PG&E solar-plus-battery proposal more useful: you can see how the equipment fits your property, what installation work is needed and how the area will remain accessible afterward.

A qualifying no-upfront PPA can help preserve cash while providing generation and storage. The location and installation scope belong in that discussion alongside the payment terms. These official resources were checked September 11, 2026.

Start with the property around the equipment

Butte County's Battalion 6 page identifies Station 64 as serving Kelly Ridge on and around Lake Oroville. The county's defensible-space resource page provides its fire-prevention ordinance, planning guidelines and Fire Prevention Bureau contact information.

Use those county resources when discussing vegetation and access around a proposed outdoor installation. Show the installer nearby landscaping, stored materials, gates and the paths your household uses. Ask how the battery location will fit the property's ongoing defensible-space plan.

This is a site-planning conversation, not a claim that a particular wall or clearance is approved. Have the project team confirm the requirements for your address with the appropriate county officials. A battery does not replace wildfire preparation or evacuation directions.

Have the installer explain why the location works

As one manufacturer example, Tesla's Powerwall 3 location guide directs designers to consider equipment clearances, environmental requirements, local code restrictions and installation efficiency. It distinguishes product requirements from rules enforced by the local jurisdiction.

Ask the installer to apply the instructions for the exact equipment proposed. Request a marked layout showing the battery, associated controls, required working space and cable route. Have the team explain how doors, windows, parking and service access affect the choice.

The Tesla reference illustrates the design process; it does not establish which battery a PPA includes. Avoid applying another product's spacing or mounting rules to your installation.

Compare the work needed at each practical location

If the installer identifies more than one suitable location, ask for the differences in wiring, mounting, trenching, surface repair and any protective equipment. Request an explanation of which work is included and which would add cost.

Describe future plans too. A storage area, landscaping project or new parking arrangement could conflict with the access the equipment needs. Keep the approved layout with the project documents so later household changes can be reviewed against it.

Our Kelly Ridge permitting guide explains the separate county and utility approval steps. For a PG&E-served property, have the contractor confirm the utility connection requirements alongside the local site review.

Connect the location to the backup plan

The battery's position does not by itself determine which rooms receive outage power. PG&E's battery guidance explains that many systems support selected circuits, with duration affected by charge, household demand and solar availability.

Ask for the supported-circuit list and a realistic estimate for your essentials. Outage operation requires compatible backup equipment, and solar replenishment needs usable sunlight. Keep operating and service instructions available with the final layout.

Put the agreed installation into the PPA

The CPUC's consumer guide explains that the PPA provider owns the solar system and charges for its generated electricity. Confirm eligibility, battery inclusion and ownership, site work, maintenance and replacement responsibilities in writing.

Review ongoing payments, the rate, any escalator, term and home-sale provisions together with remaining PG&E charges. No upfront purchase does not mean free electricity or guaranteed savings.
